FAQS
You can browse through our FAQs to discover the questions on the minds of your industry peers and the answers supplied by the brilliant engineering minds at UNIPOWER INTERNATIONAL Inc.
WHY DO HIGHER BOILER LOADS CASE FLAME DETECTORS TO PERFORM AT BELOW OPTIMUM LEVELS?
For higher boiler loads, optimizing flame detector performance begins with proper installation and is further enhanced when a fiber optic cable is installed with an appropriate degree bend at the tip specification.
WHAT IS THE INDUSTRY STANDARD OPERATING TEMPERATURE RANGE FOR AN IR OR UV FLAME DETECTOR?
There is no industry standard on the temperature range, but the majority of our competitors have an operating temperature range between 120°F and 150°F. UNIPOWER’s flame detector operates well above that with the highest operating temperature level in the industry at 185°F.
WHAT IS A TYPICAL SETTING FOR COOLING AIRFLOW TO THE FLAME DETECTORS??
Cooling airflow to the flame detectors is based on the total number of flame detectors in the system, diameter of the pipe and length of the pipe. The correct sizing of the blower is also a factor. Typically the airflow pressure at each flame detector, without a fiber optic cable, needs to be at 6” w.c. above furnace or windbox pressure or a volume of 6 SCFM. If each flame detector has a fiber optic cable it will require a pressure setting at 10” w.c. above furnace or windbox pressure or a volume of 15 SCFM.
IF COOLING AIR JACKETS ARE REQUIRED FOR EACH FLAME DETECTOR, CAN YOU USE PLANT AIR?
Plant air will not generate enough pressure to adequately cool air jackets. A compressor is required to supply the air required to the cooling air jackets only. The compressor cannot be used on any other equipment.
